Day 6: August 8th

Early start again on Saturday with breakfast at 7:45am and a target departure time of 8:30am, as we were due to travel to London for the Charlton/QPR game at 3pm.

Clear blue skies allowed for a few more fantastic photos of the stadium first thing this morning, as crews and vendors could be seen setting up for the  start of the Premier League season.  (Manchester United hosts Tottenham Hotspur at 12:45pm today.) Street vendors were buzzing around as early as 7:15am, it was easy to spot the activity from our bird’s eye view in the hotel rooms.

We hit the road at 8:45, with a stop for lunch and some traffic in the London area, we arrived at Charlton Athletic’s stadium “The Valley” just after 2pm.  The entire group was sitting together and we had fantastic seats!!  Everyone was in rows 1-5, between the top of the 18 yard box and midfield.

Good atmosphere at the game with it being the first of the season, and excitement overall with the start of all the football leagues in the UK.  Charlton won by the score of 2-0 so the home fans were quite happy.  Seacoast United even received a shout out at halftime over the PA system!

After the match, we took the group to the Charlton Athletic Megastore for those who were interested in purchasing souvenirs.  Some of the boys picked up a polo or pullover, some of the girls with scarves, etc.  A dozen or so within our group noticed that the players were exiting the stadium fairly close to the Megastore and lucked out with getting a few photos!

Back on the bus, and about 90 or so minutes left until our arrival at Lancing but we would be stopping for dinner along the way.  By the time we got back to the college, it was around 8pm and the kids were full of energy after eating the candy purchased at the rest stop. :)  Lights out at 9:30pm as we have another day of fun activities and a trip off-campus on the schedule for Sunday...
