Game Day #1: Portsmouth FC & Brighton

Big day today with all four of our teams taking the field for competitive games vs. English clubs.

Breakfast was set for 8:15am, with some time to relax in the dorms prior to a light session this morning.

It was also "Media Day" with a film crew capturing stills and video footage for promotional material related to the residential program our club is taking part in with CMT Learning and Brighton.  Several of us (kids and coaches) were asked for interviews during the morning session, however they won't be posted online immediately.  Release date TBA.

Sunny skies called for sunblock, or "Sun Cream" as it is called here.  More on the fun the kids are having with English vs American terms tomorrow...

Lunch at 12:30, then the girls were first to take to the field with kickoff scheduled for 2:30pm at Lancing College (our training fields) vs. Portsmouth FC.  A change in the schedule allowed for the boys to support the girls teams until 4pm.

Many thanks to our loyal fans who were in attendance today!

The rising U14s dominated play en route to a victory, while the U15's played very well in a 4-2 win. The girls played 3 x 30 minutes in both games. Teams exchanged plaques/pennants prior to kickoff, and the girls exchanged USA mini-balls and Portsmouth bracelets after the match.  Great display of sportsmanship between the clubs on and off the field.

After the match, it was back to the dorms for a quick change of clothes as the buses prepared to shuttle the girls to Brighton & Hove Albion's training facility just 10 minutes down the road.

One word describes the place:  AMAZING.  Photos are not allowed at the facility outside of the one group shot we took post-game but what an impressive facility.

Both boys teams kicked off at 5pm with the 2002's outdoors, and the 2003's indoors (side by side basically), playing 4 x 20 minute periods.  Energetic, fast paced, and physical could easily describe both matches, really enjoyable to watch.  The 2002's won 1-0, the '03's won 6-3.  After the match, two players from each team were interviewed on camera by Brighton's film crew.

The atmosphere on the buses and in the dorms after the game was electric.  All the kids are absolutely buzzing.

All the pics from today's games can be found here.
